SignWise Pro 2.51 Review @ net-security.org

Windows Mobile News

Quote:

"After the initial install was completed, users are given a notice that introduces them to the early steps of the SignWise setup. Basically, to complete the process the Pocket PC device must be restarted (this is done automatically) and briefly after starting the software for the first time, users must register their signature. As this is a crucial part of making this program THE boot up protection solution for your favorite handheld, you must take care of creating a decent signature. After restarting the device, we can see some new icons that were generated by SignWise. The first, SWLogout, is placed in the start menu and the important one, the SignWise program icon, is placed in the Settings/Personal folder. This is a bit peculiar from the first time user's point of view, as we usually strive to click the new icons in the Start menu. In this case we first need to go to the SignWise binary in the mentioned Settings/Personal folder."

Short Videos for PDAs Article @ videomaker.com

General PDA

Quote:

"Just as computers revolutionized work and play, Personal Digital Assistants (also known as PDAs) could change the way we see the world. Initially we only used PDAs as organizers, but now PDAs are also cell phones, cameras and music players. And now they can even play video. PDA manufacturers have been trying to put video on their machines for several years, but only recently has the quality of the video been good enough for it to be marketable. Initially PDA processors were much too slow to handle the amount of information it takes to produce good-looking video. We're seeing fast processors in most new PDAs from Palm and Windows based machines, and they will run video. "

MobileWrite converts your stylus strokes into letters, numbers, and punctuation. You can write directly onto the screen of the application which you're using, with no need for a keyboard. MobileWrite works with your calendar, address book, memo sheet, and all Palm OS applications. More...

Michigan Fire Commander Designs Tool to Improve the Way Firefighters Fight Fires

Windows Mobile News

According to the United States Fire Administration, more than 100 firefighters across America lose their lives every year. A Michigan firefighter has invented a product that he believes will reduce this statistic, and improve the way firefighters protect lives and property.

John Ellis, a 23-year firefighter veteran for the Fraser Public Safety Department in Fraser, Mich., has partnered with an information technology company to design accountability software that is compatible with a hand-held personal computer. Ellis predicts that using a pocket PC equipped with PAR (Personal Accountability Recorder) software will eventually replace the manual system that firefighters have historically used to account for personnel in the throws of a fire or emergency scene. "Not too long ago when the Pentium 4 was released it was suffice to say that most overclockers agreed that it wasn't the hottest running processor. Well times have changed, and with three FSB changes and numerous stepping changes the Pentium 4 is now a hot running processor. This is especially the case with the newer Prescott cores, which so far is Intel's newest processor offering. one of the newest fads, as far as air-cooling is concerned, is to cool your processor using a heatpipe method. Today, at ClubOC we have a veteran in the ring along with two newer designs that we are sure will do the overclocking job rather nicely."

Celestica Radeon 9800XT 256mb Gold Edition Review @ cluboverclocker.com

Celestica Radeon 9800XT 256mb Gold Edition @ cluboverclocker.com, here is a blurb:

"The ATi Radeon X800 series may very well be the best video cards money can buy right now, but what will happen to the cards that were the best just a couple weeks ago? As crazy as it sounds, those cards are now considered mid range. Normally, I almost never run right out and purchase a video card as soon as it is released. I usually wait and purchase that top end card when prices fall due to the next generation of video cards being released. Now is one of those times. We all know the Radeon 9800 series has been the champ for a long time now, so the best of the best would be the Radeon 9800XT series."

A Home Test for Parallel Universes

Science

When you think of a parallel universe, do you think of a universe, or a world, similar to ours but different in some fundamental quality. Bill Clinton, for instance, is a happily celibate priest. Or George W. Bush delights his fellow Mensa members, at parties, with his verbal games. Or, perhaps, you only have a science-fiction quality vagueness to what you think of a parallel universe: pointed ears, warp-drive through worm holes, and form fitting Lycra body suits on a thin, well-groomed crew. A parallel universe, it may surprise you to learn, is actually detectable in your own home, office, or almost anywhere indoors. All that’s required is a red laser pointer, a pin, and a piece of paper. More...

The highlight of the first day at E3 was getting “hands-on” time with the new Nintendo DS or Dual Screen handheld. Nintendo has decided to put in Bluetooth connectivity in order to encourage mini-LAN play in a circa-100 foot area and the double-screen does even more than we initially expected. While the DS still features the familiar touch pad and four-button diamond pad, the bottom screen is a touch pad that can be used to provide additional on-screen details or serve as the game interface. "The Wearable Color TV VTV-101 we received from NHJ USA has sample stickers on it, indicating that it is not necessarily the final shipping product. The box contains the main small TV unit, antenna earphone, wrist band, external battery-pack, AC power adaptor and neck strap.

The TV unit itself measures 48x48x18mm and weighs 50g (my measurements), making it the smallest TV I have ever seen. The TV display itself measures 1.5" diagonal. Above the TV display is a digital Time indicator. NHJ did a great job to make the wearable TV versatile to use. I can either snap the TV unit on the wrist strap to wear it as a Wrist Watch, attach the neck strap to wear it or clip it onto the external battery unit to get extended power. The external battery-pack functions also as the charging station for the VTV-101.
Because the TV unit is very light, wearing it at the wrist is quite comfortable. With 18mm height the Watch is definitely bulky, but acceptable. The wrist band is a free adjustable Velcro band. "

Is the E3 Crowd Discovering What PDA Today Readers Have Always Known?

Events

One of the great ironies of gaming is the little-known fact that the original Nintendo Entertainment System (8-bit) was designed to include modem functionality. The U.S. model that conquered the interactive entertainment industry and redefined mass market sales for game designers never actually implemented the feature, nor did Nintendo ever create the dial-up service that they had planned for their users that might have been a mini-equivalent of a fledgling AOL (then known as QuantumLink and PC Link).

Microsoft, HP Unveil New PC Designs

General PDA

Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft Corp. will use a Windows hardware conference in Seattle this week to unveil updated concepts of consumer and business PCs, plus a glimpse into the future of the Media PC.

Although observers expected the Windows Hardware and Engineering Conference (WinHEC) here to discuss Microsoft's delayed next-generation Longhorn operating system, it appears that Microsoft executives will instead encourage developers to focus on the PC. Jim Allchin, group vice-president of Microsoft's platforms group will unveil the HP-designed "Troy" business concept PC on Tuesday, as well as the "Hermes" mobile concept PC.

While the concept PCs are just that, they also represent a proving ground of sorts for next-generation technologies. Although consumers have embraced the notebook and desktop PC, other form factors including the PDA, Tablet PC, and Auto PC have been slower to take off. Athens, Hermes, and Troy represent small, careful steps toward designing a product that customers will naturally be attracted to, executives said.

Windows Mobile News

The new PocketSkype software lets you make free international and domestic phone calls from PDAs. The software is free from www.skype.com

Two things are required to make this work: The PDA must use the Microsoft Pocket PC operating system and must be wi-fi enabled, meaning it can connect to the Internet by wireless. This is not as unusual a combination as it might sound. Pocket PC is by far the most common system for handhelds. And the top PDA makers are now selling units that combine the PDA with a phone, camera and wi-fi. Basically, these are ready to go worldwide with free phone calls and photo transmission.

Bluefire Disables Bluetooth and Infrared Device Communication With New Version of Mobile Security Software

General PDA

Bluefire Security Technologies announced today the availability of a major new version of its mobile security software, Bluefire Mobile Firewall Plus 3.0, the only complete handheld security solution available combining multiple security features with strong management capabilities. Faced with the growing security threat created by mobile devices with Bluetooth and Infrared connectivity, security administrators can use the upgraded version of Bluefire Security's flagship product to disable these communication capabilities before an enterprise deployment of personal digital assistants (PDAs) or converged devices.

The vulnerability of Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices, as demonstrated by frequent break-ins over the past year, has raised serious concerns among the security community. Since most PDAs and smart phones come standard with Bluetooth or Infrared built-in, administrators need to disable these capabilities before issuing the devices to employees and risking information theft or backdoor exposure to the enterprise. Planning to issue 900 Hewlett- Packard iPAQ PDAs to its employees, an agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will increase security protection of its PDAs through the use of Bluetooth-disabling, pre-installed Bluefire software.
